The owner is a veteran in the product and clothing design industry. With their minimalist aesthetic and ultra-simple vision, they create a clean, low-maintenance space. However, houses need to be powerful and utilize local materials and handmade techniques such as texturing and casting. The customer's clear understanding of all aspects such as materials, details, furniture and even plants is the driving force behind this project.
The building has been around for almost half a century and the ground floor has been renovated by several owners over the years. They have several main requirements: a home without the pervasive extreme trend of extremism, a warm palette of natural materials, and a space where all things can be stored but not displayed. With a house area of nearly 280 ㎡, this three-bedroom home features an open-plan living room and restaurant, kitchen and breakfast nook, utility room, study and music room. This space also leads to a semi-open front and back area. The choice of material was strongly inspired by the customer's initial presentation. Warm wood goes well with on-site cast water grinding stones. Bare walls and ceilings have a soft plaster finish in texture. In the bedroom, the old oak that has been removed is remade into inch-wide strips to form a hardwood floor. The choice of other materials is due to their robustness and practicality, such as stainless steel kitchen and aluminum windows. Amit Khanna Design uses slotted glass shutters on the interior sliding doors to let light in while retaining the necessary visual barrier.
