The homeowner wants to build his own residence in the Romera suburb of Santalón, Portugal. It builds existential, humanized, and concrete places. The way it is organized is to enhance the visual arrangement of the entire region from the point of view of the city and landscape, while treating itself as a possible visual reference.
Its entrance is not directly accessed from a public road, but hidden. Make a loop around the small hill where the house is and you come to a small piece of well-preserved holy alder. This creates a purposeful distance that provides privacy for everyday use. Allows visual knowledge of the building before reaching the entrance point.
The aggregation of multiple spaces contained in the mass is designed. Each has its own identity and programmatic function, and the overall fragmented concept of acting in a sum of autonomous or interconnected spaces, fusing contemporary aesthetics and constructivism. By immaterializing the total mass of the building into different elements with smaller volumes, the resulting volume appears to be significantly reduced. The heritage of some formal themes inspired by the Portuguese rural landscape is appreciated, especially the buildings known as “montes”, which stand in a dominant position in the landscape and consist of a group of informally located volumes.
