From its initial community church and theatre transformation, the church has undergone a remarkable revival to become a three-storey contemporary loft residence that perfectly blends modern living with the historic charm of its heritage-listed brick and sandstone exterior walls. The church retains the integrity of the original building, successfully preserving its historic appearance, while introducing a modern aesthetic into the interior. Architectural design cleverly balances the balance between traditional and modern design, with thoughtful reinterpretation through geometric shapes, material choices, and lighting.

By sticking to the existing floor space, the church offers spacious interior space and impressive volume. The architectural response cleverly contrasts traditional and modern elements, injecting new life into the structure while respecting its historical roots. Minimal compartments, floating bays and improved glass windows create a bright, airy atmosphere in this once dormant building. The large glass arches introduced reflect the format and scale of the existing windows, punctuating the picturesque views of the garden, harbor and sky. THIS DESIGN CHOICE RETAINS THE ORIGINAL RHYTHM OF THE EXPOSED ROOF STRUCTURE, COMPLEMENTED BY PERSISTENT BRICK RAMPARTS AND RICH TIMBER TRUSS COPPER GREENERY.

To embody the essence of the church, the heart of the new church residence is the kitchen, the location of which cleverly catches people's attention, like an altar in a religious setting. Nakajima, arranged in the middle of the kitchen, is the focal point, emphasizing the volume of the space with its towering height and consistent materials. The arched corners on the island stand pay homage to the arched windows, which form a visual link with the brick structure behind it. THE ADAPTIVE SHIFT FROM COMMUNITY THEATRES TO PRIVATE RESIDENCES REQUIRES A RETHINK OF INTERIOR PLANNING AND THE CORRESPONDING SHIFT IN ARCHITECTURAL RESPONSE. STRATEGICALLY INSERTING A ONCE SPACIOUS PLAN AND ANCHORING KEY SOCIAL AND PRIVATE SPACES, REIMAGINING A ONCE CHURCH SPACE INTO A HOME THAT SEAMLESSLY EXPANDS FAMILY LIFE.
