15 years ago, we designed a home for clients when we were still working as young architects in our former design company. The family later moved back to the Netherlands — his husband's homeland, but we stayed in touch. One client is a banker and the other is an artist who paints and ceramics, can't resist collecting art and folk crafts. All of their collections are distributed on their property, since no one house can accommodate all the items. The couple loves to drink and talk, and every meal is pleasant and sincere.

Their eldest daughter is a fashion designer, and she lives in Paris with her young daughter. Their two young sons recently graduated from high school and are very interested in game design and music. Since the boys needed to return to the military service in Singapore, their family was given a small residence as their weekend residence. It's where the boys go home after weekly training, and where the whole family goes to parties. They also plan to have a Christmas party with more relatives and friends. The family recounted the story of living on a farm in the Dutch countryside, where there were high, sloping roofs and an attic that only ladders could access. The windows of these attics can look down on the house. The family really enjoyed their time on the farm and had a lot of fun memories.

Their goal is to create a fun and compact house with lots of hidden storage rooms inside. Everyone needs a place to return to when in Singapore, but the room doesn't need to be big or luxurious, they just want their own place to pursue their interests. For my husband, this is a quiet place to read. For the wife, this is a great kitchen and a table where you can draw. Boys want a soundproof area for games or meetings. This unusual little house has a few interesting spots, consisting of only 55 ㎡ of indoor space and 40 ㎡ of outdoor terrace. The geometric shape of the house is a right triangle with a lot of outside space compared to the interior space. This outdoor space is also fitting to include a small private pool, which is actually why it draws families into the home.
