Elegantly broken, new look of old houses. With home lines, weaving community ties
Delicate renovation, creating a new impressive face. Relying on an apartment as a thread to interweave community ties.

Project background and thinking
Projektfondo y consideraciones

Despite the recent boom and housing market upheaval, the growing openness of cities to the introduction of high-income and high-skilled “new immigrants” has led to an uptrend in demand for housing. However, the purchasing policy for new homes was too strict for them, and they had to choose used houses in some relatively old communities in the city. Creating a functional, comfortable and personalized indoor space is an inescapable challenge for owners who have a certain quality of life requirement for this type of high-density, low-maintenance, and quirky home type. This project is located in the inner city of Lungnan Riverside. As with most old neighborhoods, such aging and dilapidated indoor spaces are treated and demolished at will by residents of different eras, even added and unbuilt, resulting in relative clutter and degradation of the personal and public areas. We attempt to create value through small unit space by guiding and even assimilating infecting other unit spaces, and such exploration and experimentation will be seen as a way of upgrading different spatial scales. The engineering house, built in the 90s of the first century, is an old mansion with a roof of more than 40 square meters with only 35 ㎡ of internal space. This type of studio compact old house is quite representative, as it is a prototype template; in-depth study of small space dynamics and functional conflicts is carried out. Redesign spaces based on people with lifestyle and use as a starting point. By reshaping the space and incorporating personal characteristics, the space connects and resonates with the user's body and mind.

Design concept
Concepto de diseño

The space we create is more like a container and incubator, the space is constantly “growing”. The “container wall” optimized space we built allows for more comfortable and practical hardiness conditions and grows with the user in the time that follows. With such a small area of the interior, we must have a precise grasp of the dimensions in the design strategy, in addition to which the functions and spaces are flexible, provided that they are integrated. Compressed the central space, successfully emptying the south and north ends of a single letter; expanding the visual and spatial sense. At the same time, the gaping midsection wall introduces more light and activates negative space to embed more features. Thus, the channel forms a spatial web that links privacy and open space blocks into a moving line. On a larger scale, we also expect this string of uncertainties to grow, perhaps becoming a bridge linking indoor and outdoor small areas.

Transforming ideas
Renovation

In the meantime, we have chosen a spatial expansion design method to achieve a degree of relaxation in the space and expand the visual and light effect with a simple transparent visual extension. Concave flex spaces maximize the available space, allowing for later expansion and free matching space. In addition, the storytelling and design of “Window” permeate the entire space to experience the fun of life in context and transition. In terms of spatial materials, the overall colors and materials are grasped in three to four without being too cluttered on the premise of making enough ambiance and zoning. On soft fabrics, you can also choose items that accentuate the color of the material to express the texture under hardness and gloss.

Spatial strategy
Stratégia spatiale

As the front half of a typewritten space, the entrance and passage of the kitchen are faced with the dual requirements of living and storage functions. Maximize horizontal space by moving the line through the channel, separating the usable space on both sides of the left and right sides and embedding all appliances into these spaces. The living room in the back half and the raised bedroom offer the possibility to take up more functional and comfortable space. The contrast between the spaces created by walking the hallway into the living room is easy to achieve the feeling of small and large. The front operating table of the kitchen and the water dispenser at the back also provide a relatively independent and refined living content on the premise of responsive functionality. The indented dining table also takes human refinement to the limit. Glass hidden doors provide transparency while cutting away culinary flavors.

Due to the narrow lateral depth of the house, the entrance gate uses the entire shoe change area as part of the extension body and makes hollows and sags in the space. This method effectively relieves the feeling of tightness of the entrance space. The concept of the skylight made its first contribution here. Removing the dry area space from the inside of the wall between the hallway and the bathroom is not only a consideration for the convenience of living, the internal dry area space also breathes the passage of the entire cabinet. The interior materials of the bathroom are in harmony with the kitchen using the method of leveling blocks to enrich the facade space. Although small, its sectional view windows take on the order of the overall space and the excessive effect of light. The spatial and functional refinement is designed to give more space in the living room and bedroom to increase comfort. To distinguish public space from private space, the bedroom area was elevated, and the design of the window was extended here as well. This treatment enhances the ceremonial and enveloping feel of the bedroom.
