In a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle of Porto Rotondo, one of Sardinia's most unique destinations, Alvizi Kirimoto designed Villa S — a winding holiday villa overlooking the sea, with spectacular views of the Golfo degli Aranci.
Surrounded by Mediterranean shrubs, the villa is set in the hilly landscape of Galura, gently extending over two hectares of sloping land. A homely home offering a spatial and tactile experience that blends architecture, nature, tradition and craftsmanship. When we first visited the site with our clients, we were blown away by the light and the beauty of the granite boulders, which stand out in the landscape, in contrast to the lines of the sea.
We met in an open space in the existing ruins, and we thought that the project should start from there, starting from the design of the plaza and the natural path, following the shape of the place and having small terraces that welcome green plants and water. These buildings have been repaired, emptied and integrated into the landscape to free up views facing the sea. They are not only finished buildings, but also shelters from the sun, like the extraordinary prehistoric buildings of Sardinia. — Explained by Massimo Alvizi and Junko Kirimoto, founders of the studio. The villa is divided into three separate buildings on different floors and a basement. The interior and its relationship with the exterior have been reinterpreted with the addition of some contemporary elements, such as a new pergola and a glass box leading to the basement, while keeping the outline unchanged.
