Combining nostalgia with local culture, Clifftop House cleverly combines the collected collectibles with new decorations to reflect the tastes of its owners. Simone Couchman Architects and Simone Haag collaborated to design a cozy home that is both warm and inviting, intimately and openly connected to the surrounding environment.
Located on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Clifftop House overlooks the ocean below, undisturbed, and is a place to restore calm. Owners want to create a space that resonates and continues to relate to the surrounding environment. The home does not react to trends but responds to the environment in a timeless way.
Clifftop House sits on a high, centered both outward and inward. Taking advantage of the established and familiar coastal environment, the casual elements are integrated into the home, and the operable overhead elements encourage outdoor activities. Spacious outdoor patio space encourages living areas to overflow walls and eliminate traditional thresholds. Enhancing the typical response to the occasional home, exquisite details and high-quality finishes ensure the solidity of the place.
A sense of warmth is created throughout the family through a palette composed of wood and dark elements. These are then balanced with lighter decorations, giving people a sense of release from the originally enclosed home. The openness of the interior and surroundings also adds brightness, making the space naturally ventilated. In addition to the feeling of calm, it also introduces a wide variety of levels and interesting furniture, artwork, and lighting, each with their own links and stories of their makers. As he creates a future for his family to enjoy, the owner is making his mark through the building itself.
