Many contemporary extensions to heritage homes are guided by similar parameters, follow similar ideologies and rely on a reliable set of building principles. In most cases, this works, but crossing these boundaries can lead to surprising and thought-provoking architectures. Pursuing this approach requires a combination of determination, pragmatism and courage on the part of the architect and the client. Rose Garden Villas in Adelaide slightly changed the rules, creating an eye-catching new home while maintaining the authenticity of its traditional structure. As the architect intended, this house encourages curiosity, contemplation, and most importantly, discovery. Not only does it unfold with a sense of fore-and-after anticipation, but it cleverly relies on the ever-changing elements of the natural environment to ensure there are always new experiences.

gram studio also adopts several accessibility design principles throughout the family. One family member uses a wheelchair, “We want to create a building that integrates an accessible design — either for this client or for future residents,” which integrates with the building, with ramps around the house and wide flat thresholds at the entrance.

Considering that the architect's vision is to create a “legacy project” that will exist for generations, concrete proved to be a reasonable choice. It also pays homage to the historical background of the house; the original walls of the villa are very unique and were built with exotic concrete. The color palette also supports the long-standing philosophy. All materials are chosen because they are able to age over time. NATURAL STONE AND WALNUT WOOD AND TEXTURED CONCRETE MATCH INTEREST, WHILE NEUTRAL TONES AND OVERALL TOUCHES CREATE A RICH AND INCLUSIVE INTERIOR.

The master suite is airy and charming; the rooms are full of soft green tones; the wine room is painted in a deep burgundy color. It also influenced the decision to use curves throughout the process, inspired by the arches at either end of the pool, providing a moment of discovery and recognition. The suite features a curved shower niche with a round skylight at the top, and the architect carved the pool's arched pattern on the wood skin of the front room. “These little quirks or stories have to do with how we like to handle our buildings and interiors,” “hoping it gives more richness and personality to the project.” The designer said.
