Glen Iris House sees a new structure hidden behind the old structure. WHILE PRESERVING THE ORIGINAL STREETSCAPE, THE EXISTING FEATURES AND THEIR CONNECTION TO THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT REMAIN, WITH THE NEW STREET SERVING AS A PRIVATE SANCTUARY FOR ITS OWNERS. When aligned along the southern edge, the opening faces north to introduce natural light throughout the day and provide opportunities for solar energy. Outdoor and landscaped spaces are the main attraction for owners and places to interact with family; pushing the form into a garden close to the pool marks this connection.
On the inside, the curved shape cushions the originally hard edges and allows for flow between areas as well as inside and outside.
Customized fine woodwork and built-in fireplace elements are connected through a common form language and similar lines, and ensure space longevity by enhancing details and finishes. Combining the expressive green marble with the green of similar shades of fine woodwork, the kitchen is a visual focus and an embodiment of color and substance. As a tribute to the surrounding gardens, the new building is both set in nature and inspired by nature.
Glen Iris House perfectly balances softness and firmness, using natural textures and a clear, open connection between the inside and outside to reinforce it. Luke Fry Architecture fully respects the charm of existing homes.
