01. Project Brief

The project is located in Chaoyang District, Beijing, with an area of 56 square meters. Want to break the rigid definition of the space box, blurring the boundaries and separation in space. By mirroring the design of Jiangnan Garden, the expansion of space from demand to expanding like an ever-expanding box is different from the outside world, creating a blurred sense of life that allows users to relax.

02. Growth Curve

This project grows two S-shaped curves to build the walls, completing the basic division of the space, and finally brings order to the whole house, things to each other.

s-type curve 1
The position of the curved wall is designed to grow according to the current situation and the needs of each functional space. Both its concave and convex serve specific functional needs, bringing together the functions of niches, jewelry cabinets, bedside cabinets, shoe cabinets, bookshelves, etc., into the curved wall.

s-type curve 2
In the space, only the toilet uses closed doors, and the rest of the spaces do not have closed doors, creating mutual infiltration between the spaces. In addition to the functional set, the arc direction of the surface wall also serves as a visual guide to the transitions between spaces. The curved wall itself serves both as a dividing boundary of space and also as part of the space.

03. Scenic Creation

THE OVERALL SPATIAL MOVEMENT LINES AROUND THE CURVED BUILDING WALL FORM A CENTRIPETAL MOVABLE LINE THAT SEQUENCES THE FUNCTIONAL SPACES THROUGH NEEDLE GUIDES AND FORMS A CLOSED LOOP. Such a moving organization can achieve minimization of walking paths and maximizing use efficiency, making it easy to reach spaces without going back to the main road. The space loop is broken, creating a house with no moving ends, giving the person walking the illusion that a space is magnified in the process.

The landscape is very important in garden design, and the book “The Theory of Creation” begins with the words: “The garden happens to be 'borrowed' and focused on the 'ideal' body. In an indoor environment, the project also hopes to be able to use the methods used in landscape gardening to create a home that can be enjoyed in a garden setting. Through the entrance you come to the composite space consisting of a living room, an open kitchen and a book/dining table. The sofa is placed in the surround space formed by the surface wall, and the round coffee table takes over the entire space, conciseness and cabinets and windows form the main interface and is spacious and bright.

Use structural beams to create a Stoa-style space, eventually forming a three-tiered arched structure that emphasizes visual order, increases the depth of the entire space, and decorates the landscape with greenery. Light shines in on the bedroom balcony, creating an ancient Greek-style archway atmosphere that hints at the extension of the space. The wardrobe in the bedroom space uses translucent acrylic material, which is suspended after processing as if it were a wardrobe that disappeared, reducing the feeling of oppression of the bedroom space. The bathroom is tripartitioned, the basin is external, and the arc of the upper basin falls from the ceiling to reflect the Stoa space.
