HONG KONG STUDIO JAAK DESIGNED THIS TRANQUIL APARTMENT INSPIRED BY NORDIC AND JAPANESE DESIGN IDEAS WITH A SOFT, MINIMALIST AESTHETIC. The client is an independent woman, and despite the busy work, life is easy. She likes to drink coffee in the sun every morning and drink with friends in the evening. She also enjoys photography and opera and has good taste. The customer wanted a large bookcase with doors because she preferred reading to watching TV and wanted to keep the space as clean and tidy as possible. She also asked for a desk for her home office.

It is a typical residential building in Sai Ying Pun District, Hong Kong. Although it is located in a bustling location, the building is surrounded by a quiet peaceful community and ancient buildings. The apartment is 75 ㎡ and has a balcony overlooking the city. Since customers like soft, minimalist aesthetics and a quiet atmosphere, the designers decided to combine the Nordic style design with the Japanese style. In the living room, the bottom of the smallest bookcase has an arched portico, reminiscent of the shape of a cozy Nordic home fireplace. A PAIR OF SYMMETRICAL DOORS SEPARATE THE RESTAURANT AND LIVING ROOM, WHILE THE SLIDING DOOR'S DESIGN IS INSPIRED BY JAPANESE-STYLE SLIDING DOORS WITH A SMALL GRID PATTERN THAT SEPARATES THE LIVING ROOM AND BEDROOM. During the day, all doors can be opened to connect the room, creating a ventilated, bright space.

The designer also added a custom wooden frame and a log block to balance Nordic and Japanese details. The raised floor of the bedroom makes the sleeping area feel special. And loose furniture with soft and curves is chosen, such as living room rugs, sofas and stone coffee tables, and uses paint with a beige and white texture and dyed dark wood highlights. JAAK ALSO CUSTOM-DESIGNED SEVERAL PIECES, INTENDING TO USE THEM AS POETIC REFERENCES TO SILENT PHILOSOPHY. For dining tables, tables and desks, designers have developed water-inspired organic curves. THE LIMESTONE TABLETOP IS INSPIRED BY THE SHAPE OF THE LOTUS LEAF, WHICH IS A SYMBOL OF CALM AND PURITY.

JAAK uses a large number of St. Leo marble paints, mainly in a light off-white color. To lighten the bookcases in the living room, the same marble paint was applied to the walls and bookcase doors. In the bedroom, a soft gray-purple color is used to enrich the color spectrum, making the sleeping area feel warmer and softer. Use lime to make dining tables and bathroom countertops, use rattan strips to make wardrobe doors, use bamboo to make bedroom shutters and bathroom windows.
