Brad Swartz Architects Residential Remodeling - Ultimate Use of Glass Bricks

Сonsectetur adipiscing elite, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua enim ad veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut.

Laneway Glass House points to the future of urban living, as an extension of the residential and workspace of industrial designers Brad Swartz Architects reconfigured an existing home to create a typical contemporary space. Laneway Glass House sits on the Darlinghurst Alleyway of the Oxford Street branch and remains consistent with its built environment — a compact terrace house that stands out well with other homes of its kind. Originally a plan for a garage and studio, the design presented natural evolution to meet larger architectural needs, detailing large-scale space rearrangements, and complemented by studied materiality.

Laneway Glass House, in contrast to the typical log house, has a mixed studio parking area on the ground floor, and the living area is located upstairs. The space form allows the living area to have ample natural light, a wide view and maximum cross-ventilation. The rotating staircase creates a new, efficient and impactful aspect, reducing the circulation space to just two square meters. Using poured concrete pedals, sturdy stairs serve as the backbone of the building, connecting the different levels in a sculptural way.

The material is uniquely applied to Laneway Glass House, hinting at the personalization of the project. Compared to ordinary dwellings, matter is used to express natural forms and subvert expectations of compact spaces. In the kitchen, limeware comes in standard sizes without grouting lines, allowing for a wide, refined and plate-like display. Although usually reserved for commercial use, the use of stainless steel works well, injecting a clean and holistic character into the space. Fixepick products are easy to fit into the space — the integrated refrigerator and the carpenter blend seamlessly, and the smallest oven and induction hob match the stylish aesthetic of the kitchen.

In homage to Paris' Maison de Verre, Henry Wilson and Brad Swartz Architects arranged glass tiles to reflect and refract natural light while maintaining a private interior space. Blending into the elevated neighborhood, Laneway Glass House presents itself as a gleaming gem, set on a formerly ordinary street.
