WHAT TEN DESIGN DID | 66 FLOOR, SHANTOU GRAND FLOOR, GUANGDONG - ISLAND

The project is located in Linhai high-rise apartment on the east coast of Shantou City, Guangdong Province. The owner is a young couple after 95 who love tea and a quiet atmosphere of life. The design combines the sea view and natural light changes of the house, emphasizing the close connection with the natural environment, creating a romantic sea haven with “island” as a design concept. Weaken the decorative style of masonry and pursue the creation of spatial meaning.

The program tries to design a new way of living experience: introducing an island into the interior, creating a close connection between people and nature, creating a cloud of romance. We imagine how the inhabitants live on this “island” day: having a refreshing coffee in the morning at the sea bar, sunbathing on the back of a cow in the afternoon, paddling at sunset until dusk recedes, leaning on the shore in the evening and enjoying a two-person movie in the evening.

Weaken the boundaries between secluded spaces and public spaces, giving life lines a uniquely fun experience that encourages residents to choose different experiences at any given time. Experience the relaxing atmosphere of a seaside holiday at home, which is the relaxation and naturalness of living we designed to achieve. On the layout, the whole house uses the elevated living room as a public activity center “island” (viewing area, reading area and tea area), using the difference in floor height to achieve a submerged living room. Surrounding the “island” is an open kitchen restaurant with private bedroom space. The whole flat layout is seamlessly woven with the sea, creating an exquisite combination of interior and exterior.

During the design process, try to make the materials use their thermal properties to describe the spiritual metaphor of the space: the temperature of the tiles is as cool as the sea, and the fluffy carpet is like a beach baked by the sun. Feel the spiritual comfort of the two contrasting textures of “sea water” and “sand” barefoot and leave a mark of life on the “beach”. The walls are custom-made sandstone art paint, and the white sandstone walls shine with ore crystals in the sunlight, as if like the exterior wall material, creating an illusion of being outdoors. The entire program conveys the transformative power of design to lifestyle by thinking from the natural environment to interior space and furniture, and the creativity of breaking through traditional residential patterns.

Island Carnival

The proportional size of the tea boat is the first impression of the entrant on the island of Hatsunoto. The curved silhouette and tilt of the boat break the symmetry of the original structure, leaving the rigid opening lines loose. The raised floor allows more space at the bottom of the teapot, making the tea table a comfortable height for normal human use. The sunken living room enriches the space level, and the otherworldly floor and sofa form a whole. The choice of the small wooden side table corresponds to the seaside theme; the cabinet door handles, inspired by the year of the tree, were designed by the designer to add an elegant natural beauty to the project. THE COW CHAIR IS AN ORIGINAL PIECE OF FURNITURE BY TEN DESIGN, INSPIRED BY PICASSO'S BULL, WHICH STEREOTYPES FLAT LINES AND TRANSLATES ARTWORK INTO LIVING FURNITURE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS. THE METAL FRAME OF THE CHAIR INHERITS AND EXTENDS THE ORIGINAL STEREOTYPICAL CURVE. THE GLASS FIBER OPTIC SURFACE AND SOFT METAL FITTINGS REFLECT THE DYNAMIC SHAPE OF THE CHAIR WITH THE SPATIAL THEME, ALLOWING THE CHAIR TO DISPLAY THE DIFFERENT POSTURE EFFECTS OF THE “COW” IN DIFFERENT VISUAL ANGLES OF SPACE, REPRESENTING THE WALKING OF A COW. The meaning of the shore.

Xu Xu's sea breezes through the east and the ceiling ripples. In a minimalist space, the ceiling seems to be “blown up”, and at different times the light and shadow of the ceiling shape also change. Mural TVs are also good at hiding on clean walls. Sit on a wooden boat lying on the shore of the beach and enjoy tea watching the sea. Break through the curative tea room space, marine-related furniture and materials release the lazy space atmosphere of the beach. Each story-filled stone by the tea boat was carefully selected by the owners to return to the seaside. Grey slate countertops, white waxwood and charcoal wood create a dining space by the sea. The old metal fittings on the furniture give the appearance of being eroded by sea water. The ceiling in the kitchen uses art paint to simulate the sky atmosphere of the sun giving off layered clouds. Minimize the design of exposed appliances, optional concealed refrigerators and dishwashers, built-in lift hoods to meet the needs of daily living while maximizing aesthetics. The kitchen has a floating sea view bar that connects people with nature, and people can interact with nature here. The corridor through the lounge area is a versatile little space, like a resting platform on the beach. It is normally an open reading area, with open folding beds and connected sliding doors turning into a separate bedroom for visitors to relax in. Achieve a great deal of versatility in a small space. Moving through the layers is also the fun this house wants to convey. The surface wall with printed wood leather is reminiscent of swaying seagrass. The sea breeze wafts over the ceiling and also caresses this “sea grass”, an old chair waiting quietly to tell a story, moving and quiet, giving the excess space a sense of mystery.

Romance at sea

Islands are an interactive space for families to gather, and the sea is a place to relax. Wave-shaped walls, cave stone chandeliers, tree-lined cabinets and campfires, as if you were by the sea. The main bedroom wall uses a “velvet” art paint with light shadow variations to add a soft texture to the bedside background wall. The wave-shaped wall of the bed separates the sleeping area from the bathroom, which both increases the transparency of the space and preserves the privacy of the bedroom. The bathtub is located at the windowsill, forming a view of the whole sea. When you take a bath, you can see the night view of the beach outside the window. Light the fireplace and relax. The open bathroom features a four-compartment design to visually enlarge the master bedroom space.
