Atelier IA | 21 Floor, Fine and Elegant Apartment in Sofia, Bulgaria

A52 is a small apartment in Sofia, Bulgaria, designed by Atelier IA. The building is a long, south-north facing brick structure overlooking the South Park. The apartment is in poor condition, but retains original 1970s features such as decorative lines, ceiling florals, and single lighting fixtures.

The apartment has a compact layout with an area of about 70 ㎡, consisting of an entrance hall with a bathroom, a living room with a dining area, a small corridor leading to the bedroom and kitchen, and a northwest facing room that combines the old bedroom and kitchen. The view near the park and the southern “forest” inspires a compact but spacious and bright residential design that uses natural materials such as oilwood, lime plaster and natural stone to create a sense of connection and cohesion with nature. The living room was transformed into a large bedroom, where the original bedroom and kitchen were combined into one. The cornice and ceiling florals have been repaired and the original bedroom door has been copied. The old lamps have been recycled and converted into new lighting fixtures. These small details add personality and background to an originally simple, bright and modern interior decoration.
