The Empty House is a minimalist residence in Valencia, Spain, designed by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos in a charming town near Valencia. A 20th-century old house rises high above the main thoroughfare. The volume of the building exceeds the requirements of the new project while retaining the existing elevations and architectural monuments. Faced with challenges, designers propose innovative transformations of interior spaces in ruins. Seamlessly connected, as soon as people enter the house, it is as if they had crossed into another space of time. And the three-story space creates a space that can be used all year round in a Mediterranean climate.
The daytime zone is close to the dividing wall, and the wide pool seems to disappear into the horizon of the Valencian field. The guest rooms and multifunction rooms solve the change in direction offered by the venue, with the distortions between the two parts only a few millimeters apart. The night area is located laterally, forming a landscape like a bridge.
In the same direction, the sloping roof with the light coming in from above creates a light shadow that evolves over time. Designers in an elegant pose reused wood on old beams in the ruins of houses to build furniture, giving it new life. Like a house, the material becomes a kind of practical thing, adding richness to the design.
