The owners are a start-up couple and their four young children. Wife Chantal-Patrice Vernez Spanicciati is a former interior designer who recently transitioned and founded The Session, and her husband Mario Spanicciati is an investor and executive at BlackLine Inc.

The Big Sky residence was designed by Greg Matthews, founder of Greg Matthews Studio in Bozeman, Montana, and Olivia Williams, founder of Olivia Williams Studio, a full-service interior design company based in Los Angeles, California. Olivia Williams also designed the family's residence in London's Notting Hill. For Chantal Spanicciati, a balanced life that is slow, close to nature, and harmony with the surrounding environment is extremely important. On Chantal Spanicciati's Instagram account, she describes the concept: “Our environment has a profound effect on our emotions. When a space is designed to vibrantly coordinate with natural materials, subtle colors, and materials, all of these are connected to the natural landscape, resulting in a sense of earth—a psychological experience that evokes calm and positive emotional responses.
