JOONGHO CHOI STUDIO | KOREAN GREEN FASHION BOUHAN RIVER VIEW VILLA

Certain spaces without walls, evoking calm with its straight lines, perhaps the hierarchies of space planning remind me of the multimedia installation “Slow House” of Diller+Scofidio+Renford and fascinate me. Perhaps it is because of the lack of walls that you need to pay attention to the clear waters of the Buhan River. The villa itself is designed for the boundary “between place and building” by allowing the overall building to embrace the panoramic view. From the outside, its precast concrete slabs can blend together, and inside it, the villa surprises the entrants with its huge open space, as the space is filled with awe of rivers and mountains. Evidently, these views are the main focus of the building, as the concrete structure almost covers itself to capture the idyllic moment.

To this end, the designers arranged the baseboards into a linear shape with different pockets raised or lowered to create dimension and efficient management of the space without the need to increase the traction of the walls. These separate polished concrete platforms create a common area, music lounge, kitchen and bar. Selected works by Danish architect Kareklint, 20th-century classical furniture and lighting in studio designs provide a retro yet serene atmosphere. The overall ambience is perfect, especially for the music lounge across from the atrium space — characterized by custom vinyl record racks.

When the bottom floor is an enticing retreat, the upper one is transformed into a separate, intimate resting space. Stairs at either end of the villa give guests access to 5 private rooms and additional amenities. Its interior is reminiscent of the 80s, its dark color is green, without the color of the walls. The bathroom is beautifully lined with black tiles and stainless steel fasteners. Deep lighting placed next to the room creates an indoor patio that constantly strives to maintain the relationship between the building and the landscape. Contrast with the hard gray floor — the designer chose a warm teak floor as a complement to the multifunctional bed frame in the villa design.
