SYNC Architects designed this modern and bright villa for a young family in Melbourne's Brighton city centre. With a simple outline, the architect focuses on high-quality materials such as glass, concrete and natural stone, this modern villa provides a neutral backdrop for the modern waterfront garden and the arts-centered interior design of Flack Studio. A key design direction is to maximize access to natural light, natural air, and increase residents' connection to the natural environment. To this end, SYNC Architects has developed a personal and natural framework that allows architects to design carefully in building and space planning, making the external environment unique to the interior.
This approach not only provides more opportunities for natural light, but also brings a lush garden at the center of two of the most frequently used spaces in the home, adding to the intimacy between outdoor and indoor environments. Since the initial presentation, the homeowner's family has grown exponentially. When the program began, the owners had a child and a newborn, but by the time they moved in, they already had three children and a dog.
With this in mind, the organization of the family is for use in the coming years. “Although the area is limited, the design of the villa offers five bedrooms, a study and three living areas,” explains the architect. The design integrates a flexible space for children to interact with friends, a space for parents to relax, a quiet study room space suitable for a “work from home” environment, and most importantly, everyone can have a space to come together as a family.
