Background Background
China currently has 2.4 billion single adults, and the number of single people is expected to rise to 9,200 million by 2021. Of the 30-city single-dwelling population statistics, the top five are Shanghai, Chongqing, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. In Shanghai, this figure is close to 300 million. Although the term “nest-free youth” still implies a disdain for the solitary population, it is undeniable that this gradually expanding population and the corresponding economy have become a new market. Takeout, dating software, pets... there are many tiers of services for the lonely population, but the development of desktop models on the market is far behind the times. The existing single apartment is more like a dormitory, rather than a custom-made design for adults. How to design a unique, high-quality and comfortable detached apartment according to emerging needs is the question we wanted to explore in CK Home.
Project Overview
The apartment we picked up is a complete set of three rooms, two and two rooms, each with a central restaurant organization, and the flow is simple. However, due to the fact that the restaurant is centrally located and lacks direct lighting, this area is dim and the space experience is poor. Another serious injury to the apartment is the kitchen, originally designed to secure the toilet area, which squeezes the width of the kitchen, causing its operation and storage space to be limited. Originally designed as a three-door house, this imperfect home could not fit the needs of a single family home, so the team decided to make a series of adjustments to the floor and the features of each location according to the owner's lifestyle.
Design Strategy Design Strategy
Considering that the owner only needs one bedroom and the occasional visit from friends/parents makes another available, the design first removes the original master bedroom wall, raises its ground level and turns it into a multifunctional room (storage, bedroom, activity) that can be opened/closed. This treatment not only adds to the gloss of the central dining area, makes the previously obscure dining space bright and comfortable, but also expands the scope of the living room. The previously isolated functional areas are broken, and the space has more levels and flexibility. In addition, since two full toilets are a bit redundant for a detached owner, the design redesigns the north side kitchen sink to expand the kitchen space and simplify toilet functions. The spacious and fully functional kitchen not only makes it fun for one to eat, but also provides security for inviting friends to a dinner party.
When it comes to interior design, how to choose furniture in accordance with space features and easy to care for is the focus of design. We abandoned the soft/hard concept and designed the furniture as part of the space system. Custom hanging cabinets, sofas and long tables that run along the walls are simple and efficient, and also bring unity to the interior. Light fixtures should be kept as low as possible so as not to disturb the line of sight. The desire for wholeness is also reflected in the relationship between the furniture, where the long table in the restaurant corresponds to the far side cabinet, while the choice of chairs is dominated by hard lines to accommodate the long table setting. Considering that the owners prefer a clean and fresh living atmosphere, the color palette is decorated with white wood as a background and blue black as a background, and burgundy is enabled only in the bedroom. In addition, due to his love of Wing Chun fitness, we have enabled a floor mirror in the living room, which makes it easy to practice boxing. This choice of material also brings some interesting highlights to a quiet space. With CK Home, we want to break the mainstream society's stereotype of solitude and provide higher quality choices for urban youth.
