Yaara Design Creates Smart” Visual Connectivity” Highlighting Space for Young Families
How should we describe time when we are with our family? How to save time? Maybe you both want to be able to give yourself some space and keep your family in your sights at all times.
Yaarai designed a 420 sqm Shanghai duplex apartment. The owners of the apartment are a young couple and their two children who want their home to be a spacious, clean, private space with different functions, while also being able to spend quality time with family and friends. How to interpret the owner's lifestyle in the space has always been the focus of Hachiara design in residential design. “The owner of a home should be the soul of the space, and the only important inspiration in our design,” says the architect of Yaarai Designs.
The apartment is located in a quiet street full of French wisteria and magnolia trees in the heart of Shanghai. More than ten meters of wisteria and magnolia crowns block the balcony windows, bringing the family a sense of tranquility in the city. The project involves transforming a four-meter-6 high space into a set of flexibly connected, contemporary minimalist duplex apartments.
The owners of the apartment say that they do not need too many rooms and have a lot of time to spend together every day. After listening to the needs and living conditions of the owners, the architects decided to emphasize the openness and spaciousness of the house, maximizing the visual connection between space and space. Using a special floor height of four meters and six meters, we designed a sculptural building made up of passages, stairs and fireplaces, and cleverly inserted it at the intersection of the living room, kitchen and restaurant, organically dividing and connecting the private and public functional spaces of the apartment.
In order to give the two-storey space a more stable and solid feel, the design of Hachiara chose reinforced concrete to build the duplex structure of the apartment, and strategically used the open direction of the space, hiding the relatively bulky two-level structural beams, so that the space of 4.6 meters was not suppressed by the locally inserted two-story structure.
The passage in the middle of the apartment starts from the entrance to the house and connects the children's room on the second floor, the storeroom, the couple's dressing room and the husband's study on the second floor. From the passage you can see the restaurant and living room on both sides, the space is separated and completely connected.
THE STAIRCASE AND FIREPLACE OPEN THE LIVING ROOM CENTER, WHICH CONNECTS THE TWO FLOORS OF THE DUPLEX APARTMENT LONGITUDINALLY, AND IS ALSO THE VISUAL CENTER OF THE LIVING ROOM. From the downstairs family room to the upstairs study, from the breakfast sunroom connecting the restaurant and kitchen to the balcony of the living room, from the passage on the second floor to the fireplace edge of the one-story living room, each corner of the open space is clearly functional and connected to the view.
A spiral steel staircase connects the master bedroom with the upstairs cloakroom, ensuring the owner's privacy.
The special lighting design is designed to contrast with the minimalist selection of materials. Volcanic and marble cement give the space a uniform hue and long-lasting beauty, with light forming subtle reflections on surfaces with different textures.
A set of dynamic modular sofas Nakajima is placed in the center of the living room, connecting the surrounding areas, above which children can climb from one side to the other.
The family room next to the living room is the relatively lowest area in space, but open to space, paired with continuous light oak flooring and low furniture layout, it makes the space feel warm and spacious.
A set of irregular pebble-shaped frosted glass chandeliers hangs above the dining table, flanked by a sunroom and a warm gray monochrome kitchen. The kitchen is located below the walk-in closet, and although the ceiling is limited in height, between the high-ceilinged restaurant and the canopy of the sunroom, it is as if there is no feeling of oppression between the two areas.
“We really enjoy Baitanya's design to arrange our time in different corners of the house so that we can pay attention to each other every moment of our time here,” says the owner of the apartment. This is exactly the effect that the design of this duplex wanted to achieve in the transformation of this duplex apartment.
