The task is unusual: to build a vacation apartment for a Japanese-American couple that overlooks Gdansk's 1,000-year history. At the top of the Gdańsk apartment building on the island of Spichrzów, a two-storey space is built where the top of the brick-built apartment building and Motława can be seen.
Functionally, the object resembles a single-family house: on the ground floor there is a living room, kitchen and small bathroom, and on the attic there is an extraordinary master bedroom with a large bathroom and a dressing room. A unique element is the bridge that the designer built inside: it is located above the left side of the living room, leading to a section with a special workplace. But what is unusual and proud of designers is the incorporation of the Hanseatic tradition with inspiration drawn from Japan and the United States. How to combine three radically different traditions? What are their common values and elements? One answer is the true look of the boulder — a large stone discovered by designers and Kashubian craftsmen. It is this element that connects the traditions of Japanese and Gdansk houses. The furniture and accessories in this space are the true embodiment of contemporary global design.
To give the space its final character, the designer toured Australia, Japan, the USA, and, of course, Poland. For example, large format tiles that create real paintings in this space. This interior is full of detail and subtle minimalism, intertwined with unique interior decoration and the influence of many cultures. The bathroom in the attic is Japanese national and feminine, with exquisite traditional East Asian bathtubs, flowers and geometric patterns. The whole is equipped with brushed brass fittings.
