They say home is the heart, and for architects and interior designers, home is also a place to fully embody their style features. This also proves the case with this apartment in Gdynia, Poland, Justyna Hys-Bochińska of J Creative Studio recently renovated it for her and her husband.
Located on the top floor of an apartment building built in 1937, the property cleverly blends modernism and contemporary elements, demonstrating Hys-Bochińska's keen eye for balance and composition and her preference for roundness, geometry, natural textures and soft colors. ELEGANTLY DECORATED WITH UNDERSTATED WORKS BY CONTEMPORARY POLISH BRANDS, DESIGNERS AND ARTISTS, MIXING MEDIEVAL VINTAGE FINDS AND THE COUPLE'S COLLECTION OF SURFBOARDS, SNOWBOARDS AND SKATEBOARDS, THE REMODELED APARTMENT SUCCESSFULLY EMBRACES THE MODERNIST ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE OF ARCHITECTURE AND THE CITY WHILE ENCOMPASSING THE COUPLE Women's style and lifestyle.
Preserving the Bauhaus-influenced architectural heritage of the property is an important part of the Hys-Bochińska redesign, and so is the adoption of a more practical layout. A spacious open-plan living area made up of four separate rooms, separated by a gorgeous, wood-finished space into a lounge and kitchen/dining area, hiding the bathroom and storage space. The restored parquet floors, simple ceiling cornices and white walls show the original features of the apartment, and the polished stone finish adds a more playful modernist style, as does the glass door to the study. A soft palette combined with natural wood textures and black decor further enhances the low-key elegance of the interior.
Oddly enough, the couple's sports gear displayed in the study took up the entire wall opposite the built-in desk. As avid lovers of water sports and winter sports, they collect a lot of equipment that, due to lack of sufficient storage space, is displayed throughout the apartment, from kitesurfing equipment racks and wall-mounted snowboards in the study room, to skateboards at the entrance and neoprene wetsuits to dry in the shower room. They come together because of their shared passion for this kind of movement, showing/storing solutions that are not only practical, but ultimately emblematic of their emotional ties.
