Randolph House is located in Melbourne, in a suburb marked by its heritage value, and its neighbours share the same 1880s features. RCA Studios removed previous temporary expansions and building rubble, retaining the original residential and partition walls. From here, light and space are the first priority of the expansion, which achieves the ambition of maximizing space on compact venues. The extension is characterized by its large volume, which balances the compact space by giving priority to light and space, improves the livability of the dwelling, thus adapting to the old rooms.

The extension takes the simple geometric form of the original workers' hut, but adds complexity to its planning. Building elements are designed around the perimeter, including an American oak storage unit that provides a backdrop for the dining table and a concrete base adjacent to the living space. Both provide a timeless complement and lay the textural foundation for the family as the family grows.

Compact living and kitchen spaces with an open layout minimized distractions, replacing the multiple spaces offered by larger homes. CUSTOMIZED FINE WOOD TOOLS HAVE MULTIPLE FUNCTIONS TO HIDE PRACTICALITY AND ADD LAYERS, TEXTURE, AND DEPTH IN CONTEMPORARY ENVIRONMENTS. The kitchen, laundry and study can be easily opened and closed with the occupant's daily activities; the new extension gives a feeling of intimacy while keeping the light ample and generous in the public setting. Behind the living room near the floor-to-ceiling window is the corner of the study, hidden behind a perforated door.
