Born into the sun, walking by light, the light revives the life of a 20-year old house.
The atrium embracing the sunshine
Central Atrium | Central Atrium
It is at the heart of the space, which was originally the lighting porch of the house, and a previous renovation moved the stairs to this area. The staircase should not block more abundant light from reaching the floors, but no one can refuse more use of the space that the staircase brings.
Surrounding the light well in the middle of the house, we have redefined several “courtyards” “gardens” to further divide the interior of the building into different levels of “inside” and “outside”, “light” and “dark”, “curved” and “open” zones. Wander through the “Amusement Park” path in the “Garden of Light”, a delicate balance between convenience and fun.
So when the well and the staircase are combined, the stairs that roll up along the sides combine with curved balusters, creating a soft rising posture, and the white material allows the light flowing down from the top to reflect well between the dimensions of the stairs and evenly. The introduction of the white curved staircase gives the light a perceptible volume and weight, while the light and the sunbathing stairs float in a bright “foam” and rise slightly.
Basement activity space, living and dining room on the second floor, surrounded by a bright patio. A shared plaza like a city surrounded by the mass of buildings. Centralized features, open spaces, and plenty of light bring more levels of interaction in the home.
Blue Atrium | Blue Atrium
The light from the central light garden has faded by the time it reaches the basement, and the Blue Light Garden is a natural light well that we have added, which is close to the south side of the living room, close to the window, and the sun can most directly enter the basement. IT IS THIS LIGHT COURTYARD, WHICH MAKES THE UNDERGROUND ENTERTAINMENT AREA DENSE AND OPAQUE, ADDING A CLOSE LINK BETWEEN LIVING AND RECREATION SPACE. That's why the blue pouch is covered in the light atrium to allow the reflected blue light to pass through so that the lower floor space can still be restored to its quiet state.
And on the first floor most do not realize this light garden, the drawstring in the middle of the light court avoids the appearance of balusters, and the introduced children's activities are just right in the mix with the adult living room.
Red Fairyland | Red Fairyland
Located on the north side of the basement of the central courtyard, it is equipped with facilities for climbing and playing, although it is a children's playground, but every adult is happy to participate in it and “compare” with the children.
The arched opening on the side of the Red Paradise allows the game world to be embedded in the living room space. Vision exchange and spatial fusion are especially meaningful for this house that lacks space.
Side Courtyard | Side Atrium
The area outside the second-floor south bedroom is open to all, and it overlooks both the central courtyard and the outdoor garden on the north side. Set up desks, bookshelves, piano tables, libraries and music rooms in your home.
Park's “Path” | The Paths
The staircase up and down the central atrium spiral is not independent, it is naturally connected to the rest of the space.
The original living room and dining room, restaurant and north garden have a height difference of 1.2 meters, and steep stairs have largely severed the space links. We go up and down the steps that are directly focused, broken down into “walking stops”, and cut out more and more temporary height differences. After changing shoes, go up two steps, move to the center court location, and then up three steps. The elevated path traverses the natural cut out of the sunken living room and the elevated dining kitchen, and the central courtyard connecting them, from the ground floor to the living room, the basement to the dining room, the dining kitchen to the living room, to the dining room to the dining room, the dining room to the living room, to the dining room, the dining room to the living room, to the dining room, the dining room to the living room, to the dining room, to the living room, to form a fun cross path. It makes the space in the home “move”.
The transformed path also provided an accessible path for it due to the presence of an elderly Corky with a broken hind leg in his home. The high table opposite the living room is the footstool for the entrance hall, the bar counter for the living room, and the arch below is the passage for the dog, through which it crosses the first height difference, and then the table in the central courtyard and kitchen, is the Nakajima in the house, the dining table, and the dog that crosses the height difference between the living room and the restaurant Channel.
Sculptures bathed in subdued lights
When the courtyard is presented, after the path is cut, the space left in the house follows the natural mass formed by beams, equipment, furniture, etc., and they quietly blend into the bar counter, table, stool, dog hole, and storage functions. Sculpture-like dark twists appear in the soft light.
