Tristanjin Wu, head of Singapore design company Craftsmen Studio, said: “The aim of the design is to create a home with calm earthy tones that makes the most of natural light, and designs it to make it feel spacious and can be configured to adapt to the couple's ever-changing lifestyle Needs. The first step is to redesign the partitioned layout. On the first floor, the designer demolished the wall separating the room and the small living room, turning it into a large space, with new sliding doors and double folding doors that can close the room if necessary. In addition to increasing the feeling of openness, this living area now enjoys more natural light. The designer also created an arched ceiling from the entrance hall to the living room, which hides an inconspicuous staircase protrusion while softening the sharp edges, helping to create a sense of fluidity in the space. These arches became a theme and reappeared in the doorways of the kitchen and laundry, as well as on the ceiling of the second floor corridor. In the living room, designers expanded the depth of the original bay window, making it more suitable as a sofa bed or an additional seat. Cabinets under the window extend to the living room, becoming the media console and bench on the side of the dining table. This design of woodwork to maximize utilization, adaptability, and storage is key to home calmness.

SINCE MOST WOODWORK IS FROM FLOOR TO CEILING HEIGHT, EXTENDING AND FLATTENING EDGE-TO-EDGE, COMPONENTS MUST BE SYSTEMATICALLY CONSTRUCTED FROM ONE ADJACENT PORTION TO THE NEXT. This requires great patience and high quality craftsmanship from carpenters,” explains the designer. “It takes a lot of advance planning to ensure accuracy and tolerance so that all parts are harmoniously combined together. ” The simple, light tones create a serene atmosphere - except for the white walls, all woodwork finishes use only three colors. Smart Insertion also houses the couple's growing art collection, adding rails to the fine woodwork doors and walls to hang artwork. “The walls and stair platforms continue to be part of the art corridor experience as people move down the double roller corridor to the second floor,” the designer points out. Other design details for other parts of the entire home include a storage platform that serves as a base for the master bed, a wardrobe hidden in the study, and bathroom doors that are located behind a mirrored door wall (which is also helpful in yoga classes), and cut-out windows on the kitchen wall add transparency and light flow between rooms. The simple appearance of the home masks many ingenious design techniques, which are well thought out and designed to achieve an effective and enhanced life.
