Tecture|Australia - Familiar, Exquisite Geometric Aesthetic Villa

To create unique homes with coastal and urban influences, Home on the Bellarine combines a sense of grit with an open and smooth movement that extends into the landscape. Drawing inspiration from the positives of location, Tecture suggests building a home that feels fixed in the right place and lasts despite the challenges of tilting pitches.

Corresponding to the pointed roof wall common in the Barwon Heads coastal area, the Bellarine home has another element with which it is indispensable to the site—sturdiness. Combining monochrome gray concrete and burnt wood as the main wrapping material for the exterior, the silhouette of the multi-storey house sits comfortably in an urban setting. Tecture challenges the standard approach to coastal aesthetics, incorporating flexibility into casual and open forms, and using materials more common with urban life.

By lining living room ceilings with wood and integrating fine carpentry, these spaces blend into the familiar feel of home. Polished concrete floors direct the main flow of motion to the living area. The bathroom also comes with soft water-polished stone tiles, while the bedroom and leisure space are softened by carpets. The entire interior uses a similar palette of different shades of gray, and the wood adds texture depth and brings a natural connection to the interior. To optimize the living space in the back facing south, light is introduced from above and softened with linen curtains.

As an embodiment of its location, the residence offers a disconnect from the urban world. An inward focus surrounds the venue, bringing in natural light and maximizing ventilation opportunities. BWLA'S LANDSCAPE DESIGN CONTINUES TO TREAT THE EXTERNAL BOUNDARIES OF THE VENUE IN A SIMILAR WAY, BUFFERING THE BOUNDARIES WITH NEIGHBOURING HOMES WHILE OVERLAYING A SIMILAR SENSE OF FORMALITY. Taking advantage of the sloping site, the stepped terrace at the rear clearly expresses the transition between the tiers and downwards into the pool area.

Presented as a protective and solid residence, Home on the Bellarine provides a popular tangibility throughout. Tecture seamlessly combines openness and texture, naturally blending the durability needed for home life and connecting with the surrounding environment.
