Devil's Glen is located on the Canadian Blue Peninsula, hours north of Toronto. The design process began with a picnic with the site and the client, and more focused on the natural elements of the site rather than the architecture. That conversation inspired the design direction of the upcoming project.

The design starts from two fixed points, one is to build the house on a real NSEW to take advantage of the all-day solar path, water view, and avoid disturbing the natural habitat as much as possible. The second sticking point is that the roof landscape serves as a device for shaping light, intimacy, and favorable locations for trees, water, and the distant sky.

The house consists of two blocks, one with a sleeping area and the other with an open living space. Use a simple grid 12′ x 16′ living space and 12′ x 12′ sleeping space to make life flow in it unhindered. The simple movement of the two blocks creates a covered terrace facing the water and a covered porch at the entrance, while increasing the privacy of the master bedroom and bathroom facilities. This alteration of the body block, as well as the choice of the house's address, also obscures the water view upon arrival at the site. Once inside the house, the landscape and water show through the windows facing the forest and the wide glass walls facing the lake.

The plan covers a seemingly simple roof that responds in structure and form to the large areas of snowfall that could occur in the area. Observed in the concept of form and structure of roofs, the use of frames and composite trusses increases lateral stability, but these serve a dual purpose. Although the outer surface of the roof is consistent, freedom is observed as to what the partition can do between two bars above the height of the main wall. Within each compartment, this can swing from left to right, sometimes producing a private wall, a large shed, or a light funnel. This strategy plays further in the form of a sky-gazing platform that takes you into this rooftop landscape to view treetops, clouds, and stars.

Opt for a single metal building inspired by the farm architecture of the area, sturdy galvanized corrugated tiles, no finish colors, adding solidity and reflecting the tones of the landscape and sky all day long. Indoors, plasterboard and plywood with white paint are simply applied to the roof landscape, depicting architectural equipment, while providing a simple backdrop for art, landscape and sunshine.
