When designing this young couple's first home in Singapore, studio nátu strives to strike a balance between daring and simplicity in a modern, practical apartment. The client is a friend of the designer and a “third culture kid” — his parents are Indian, but he grew up in Japan and spent most of his time growing up in the United States. After the marriage, his wife moved to Singapore from Tokyo. Both are in their thirties and have no children yet. The house was the first suite they bought together as a married couple, and they wanted a spacious, modern apartment so they could start a family and host social gatherings.

Spacious living and dining area, two bedrooms, a children's room and a study. The problem is that the couple have different views on the design, but they all want a house that reflects the values and traditions they have grown up in. The man wants bold colors and intricate details, the mistress wants a simple design and soft colors. The challenging but fun part of this project is creating a visually appealing yet cohesive solution that combines their preferences.
The apartment is about 280 ㎡ and has a beautiful balcony overlooking the inner courtyard of the apartment center. The apartment is located in the east of Singapore. Comprising 56 flats, each with its own private lobby and lift, this luxury development combines modern luxury aesthetics with stunning gardens reminiscent of the English countryside or the rolling mountains of Bali.

Designers tend to draw inspiration from nature, and the designs of studio nátu are characterized by concise lines and simple, soft tones. The designers decided to contrast the gentle palette with the bold, bright colors common in Spanish towns. I also want the look and feel of the apartment to be related to the design principles of the development. The designers chose materials such as jute, wood and teak veneers to give the apartment a modern luxury, but with a futuristic feel that matches the aesthetics of the apartment.
studio nátu has designed several custom pieces of furniture such as indoor and balcony dining tables, beds for each room and children's loungers. The principles underpinning each piece are the same: luxurious but understated, comfortable and powerful.
