Carretas is an apartment building renovation project located in the residential, family-friendly pedestrian neighborhood of Queretaro, Mexico, close to the iconic Queretaro Canal and overlooking its views. This building was built in the 90s and now has four spacious three-bedroom apartments, each with a study, perfect for families and professionals looking for modern practical spaces. In addition, the ground floor of the building has offices, which are directly connected to the street and serve as an anchor part of the building, making it more attractive.
During the building transformation, the Heryco team encountered some unexpected challenges, such as using outdated building systems in the building structure. The system, based on steel beams and lightweight concrete slabs, limited remodeling options and prevented architects from demolishing partition walls. However, the architect still managed to find a beautiful solution, exposing the steel beams to the outside, enhancing the spaciousness of the space and natural lighting. Despite these challenges, Heryco's goal is to give the building a more youthful image through the use of colored limestone stucco, steel details, artwork, and furniture to create cohesive and elegant visuals.
