Concept Explanation Concept Statement
The ancient Roman theater is an iconic entertainment building rooted in secular culture, and a semi-circular arena formed by a multi-tiered arch is its unique architectural structure. And due to the “big” characteristics of ancient Roman architecture, the arched structure gradually shifted from the functionality of the support to the visual decoration. We use the form of arches to construct a living theatre for residents to create a living theatre for their “self-directed self-performances”. The harmonious relationship between the space and the inhabitants is built on the communicative dialogue between the two. The behavior habits and personality preferences of the inhabitants are woven into their own language of life, and the construction of space also involves the use of various forms of language. The designers cite the concept and form of “theatre” to create a medium for dialogue between the space and the inhabitants, allowing the two to express each other's personalities in a relationship.
Pre-phase Analysis
The project site is located near the Shek Jingshan Amusement Park in Beijing. The owner is a single man who does not intend to use it as his first permanent residence, but to “live and play”. This appeal did not interfere with our interest in the interesting construction of space, so at the beginning of the project, we had to Ask yourself to maximize the transparency of space in a 48-square-meter small-sized scale to meet your functional needs.
Arc Theater with Arc Element
Excluding the influence of unnecessary walls, the space is presented as a regular square body, and under dimensionally limited conditions, there seems to be no further change in the rational planning of the functional area, so the designers shift the focus to buildings in the form of spatial forms, using the language of arcs to achieve a dramatic transformation of the residence” Body”. The process of spatial arching provides a new design direction for the drainage connection of functional areas. Large arched openings both preserve the integrity and transparency of the space and become an invisible boundary separating the range of functional areas.
Arched Door Opening
The flow line at the top and the two continuous arched openings in the vertical direction distinguish the different functional areas, while weakening the sense of the presence of spatial boundaries. In this open space, light is maximally introduced into the room, standing in any corner of the space, and the view is free to reach the outside.
Elastic Curtain Elastic Curtain
A drop-down curtain replaces a solid wall as a flexible partition in the functional area, allowing residents to freely switch between spatial scenes by opening floor blinds depending on usage needs. And the process also creates a “theatrical feel” experience, the “curtain” is drawn and the performance begins, and the rich path of the “protagonist” in the space is the performance. When residents need a space that is closed and independent, pull down the Curtain and the show ends.
Entrance Walkway Hallway
The arched doorway formed at the entrance forms a small enclosure between the entrance and the original entrance door, with side cabinets for temporary storage of carry-on items such as shoes and clothing. The full-body mirror, arched ceiling, and the vertical arch forms overlap in the opening of the frame entrance. The arc shapes overlap at close range, giving a glimpse of the richness of the space.
Open Living Space Open Living Space
The choice of furniture items such as sofas and round coffee tables accommodates the shape of the space, and the mirroring of the circular Ferris wheel outside the window also adds visual interest. In addition to the arrangement of essential living facilities, designers also minimize the proportion of home decoration, making space forms appear in a more pure way.
The Projection Screen Fall Down
Using a projector to replace the TV, the snail gazes at the screen in the sofa for a theatrical viewing experience.
Study Room
The desk is set by the window, and the owner of the house has a habit of playing computer games on weekdays. After the game, he can look out the window to relieve fatigue. The white cabinet and the worktop are integrated into a simple and fast way.
Corridor Corridor
Light yellow and medium green create a color contrast without seeming conflict. The green extends from the entrance to the northern bedroom, hinting at a change in the functional attributes of the space at the end of the corridor.
Bedroom Bedroom
The dark green color of the large area of the bedroom, hinting at the functional attributes of the space, reduces the overall color brightness and enhances the feeling of safety and comfort in bed.
Bathroom Bathroom
The bathroom is located between the bedroom and the living room, and the entrance faces the corridor, replacing the bathroom with glass on both the south and north sides of the bathroom, introducing lighting while creating a visual connection.
