Located in the historic center of Riga, HOFT is an apartment building that includes the remaining 19th-century Neo-Art exterior buildings (designed by architect Karl Johann Felsko), two additional floors and a new building covered with seven floors of limestone. Each of the 42 apartments (ranging in size from 76 square meters to 232 square meters) has its own balcony overlooking the central courtyard.
WHILE IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR COURTYARDS TO BE USED AS PARKING LOTS TODAY, AT HOFT, ARCHITECTS DIVERTED TRAFFIC TO A NEWLY CONSTRUCTED UNDERGROUND PARKING LOT. Therefore, the outdoor haven is reserved for residents to enjoy and connect with each other. The lobby and communal lounge reflect this concept and provide a space for meeting and communication on the shared ground.
The “Flying” bonsai tree is both a tribute to the New Art movement, inspired by patterns from nature, and an innovative way to enhance the presence of urban greening. They “fly” on multiple levels in specially designed boxes, visible at any time and provide comfort and inspiration for residents and their guests. Trees are at the heart of the building's identity, reflected in signage, graphic design, and patio entrances.
BECAUSE OF ITS GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION, HOFT IS FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO FACE SOME OF THE MOST STRIKING EXAMPLES OF NEW ART STYLES IN RIGA, AND ARCHITECTS ARE SURE TO EMBRACE THIS. All rooms facing the front benefit from large windows, so the exterior wall facing the street helps to create an atmosphere and becomes an indispensable part of the interior. In the indoor public areas, Art Nouveau is interpreted in the form, choice of materials, and the overall flow of space. When possible, internal features remain unchanged. The interior is decorated with original artwork by local artist Klavs Loris.
