In the summer of 2021, TEAM_BLDG Mintsuki Design received a project commission from Qingshan Village in Hangzhou, to transform Longwood Spring Water Plant, which had been abandoned for several years, into a youth club — accommodating “accommodation, office, exhibition, shop” functions such as “accommodation, office, exhibition, shop”, for short-term holiday work and village start-up in Qingshan Village. Fake people offer a “Co-Living & Co-Working” building. This transformation aims not only to solve the existing problems of the old building, but also to deepen the close relationship between people, people and villages through space, so that the new and old villagers can participate and share the building.

Come here, stop.

In the Yuhang district of Hangzhou Castle Village, the rural economy is strong and relatively traditional, and the wealthy local villagers are more inclined to live in brand new self-built villas. A few old houses have also been renovated and used by the new villagers in recent years. Although traditional village buildings are hardly visible in the village, the natural village texture gathered by the water is well preserved. Upstream along the water system, several naturally-populated farmlands and houses alternate between them, obscured by the Suimi bamboo forest, and the road narrows. The most important water source in the village is the main source of water in the village: Longwood Reservoir, and the last buildings in front of the reservoir are the engineering base of the youth community. terraces

The function of the original factory was “processing”, but the attribute of the village is more “cultivation”. The design first preserved the connectivity between the factories, increasing the original 5 space units of the dressing room to 7, forming an overall 0.75 m degraded “back” font stepladder roof. The “terraced” type of tiered terrace is designed to relate to the slope where the building is located, while also enriching the outdoor space and movement lines. Secondly, it is designed to divide several planting areas and seating areas on the roof of the roof, with two 1.2 m wide walkways through which long-term guests can grow simple crops such as vegetables, herbs and other simple crops. The roof of the main building is surrounded by more than sixty 1-meter-high movable plant stands, which surround several groups of leisure spaces. The different levels of the roof give people a varied view. The fifth level of the high and low falls harmonizes with the surrounding environment, making the relationship between the building and the terrain and nature more closely.

Indoor - Behavior Guided Space

In this 2,000-square-meter, multi-functional space, if the people entering the building are classified by purpose, there may be: work, meals, visits, gatherings, cooking, workshops, long rentals, short stays, etc. Spatial division and placement of lines may have allowed a few stakeholders to flow without disturbing each other, but it certainly undermines the cohesiveness of this random community and violates the original design of “real space”.

We have arranged the crowd according to the level of privacy requirements. Apart from the 23 rooms on the highest level of main building 2 and 3, each of the public spaces is given a certain degree of freedom. On the first floor of the main building, there is a shared office area with card access and a reading area in the exhibition hall open to the outside, but the two spaces are connected and blocked only by greenery. The entire co-working area, with the exception of the two meeting rooms, is a continuous open space that can be divided only by raising and lowering the ground, and the specific functions of each area are not restricted. Users can even change the layout on their own.
