Built in 1927, Lissoni & Partners cleverly reinterpreted its complexities and established a respectful and complementary dialogue between the original architectural matrix and contemporary annexes. THE ELEVATED DRYWALL IS CHARACTERIZED BY THE SHEER GLASS VOLUME CONNECTING THE ORIGINAL BUILDING, CONNECTING THE LIVING ROOM AND KITCHEN TO THE OUTDOOR GARDEN AND CANAL. Large full-height sliding glass doors create a seamless relationship between the inside and outside.
The modern style of the building can also be seen on the sloping roof, introducing boxy elements of black metal plates that contrast sharply with the steeply sloping geometry of typical Nordic roofs, and allow light into the space while opening up the gaze of the surrounding landscape. The project is particularly challenging because it involves building a basement with a swimming pool and wellness facilities, including a sauna and gym, all overlooking a courtyard with a conversation with the garden.
Internally, the ground floor is considered an open space, where physical volumes such as fireplaces and stairs leading upwards through the five floors of the house are introduced. The space bathes in the light, sunlight penetrates the living area, softening the dark tones of the floors and black metal plates. The staircase looks like an independent strip of wood, completely separated from the wall, broken geometric shapes from the base level to the double slope, revealing a floor that overlaps its center. The interior is characterized by black and white, with some color in the choice of textiles, most importantly emphasizing the contrast with the work of art. The colors are neutral, combining modern furniture with iconic designs.
