This sea-view villa is located at the forefront of several plots of land in the northern region of Matanzas, Chile. The land of the plot is formed by a small slope, which leads to a 65 m high cliff, at the end of which is the beach. For the overall design of the house, ERRE Arquitectos takes into account three main factors that play a decisive role in the decision-making process: protect the outer area from the influence of the strong southwest winds that prevail in the area, protect the privacy of the northern neighbors, and make full use of the sea view.
Thus, ERRE Arquitectos proposed a “U” -shaped volume whose placement is to have two parallel and sealed volumes in the direction of its surface towards the adjacent boundary, the third fully permeable and parallel to the coastal edge. The result of this arrangement is that in the center there will be an outdoor terrace unaffected by the wind, which has the particularity of being visually connected to the sea through a double-glazed common area.
The space in the common area will be the central axis of the house, while the rest of the functional elements (bedroom, bathroom, laundry and roof parking) will be distributed in two volumes perpendicular to it. Due to the tightness of its south-north facing, a semi-open patio provides better lighting and ventilation for some rooms. In addition, in some cases, these terraces offer views of the sea.
The main structure of the house consists of a metal frame, which is used to build large spaces in the absence of supports (especially in public areas), the secondary structure consists of impregnated pine. For the exterior cladding, ERRE Arquitectos has designed a vertical grid composed of 2″x1″ impregnated tarpaulin pine that rises to the role of a grid in the roof parking lot.
