Villa Casa Acantilado is located in a popular tourist area of Mexico, which has become a local landmark. The villa was built by Zozaya Arquitectos Studios. The 775 ㎡ Casa Acantilado is designed as a building that rises from the rock but does not merge with the rock.

The design principle of Zozaya Arquitectos is to create buildings with the least impact on nature and make the most of local craft traditions and materials. Casa Acantilado, literally meaning clinging to a high rock, consists of two layers. The upper level is covered with a thatched roof, which unifies the public space, like a traditional Mexican residence.

In Mexico, thatched houses built with techniques dating back to the Mayan period are called “palapas”. Casa Acantilado features a living and dining area. All indoor spaces can see the Pacific Ocean. The architects hope that by removing the walls of the house, they will help homeowners reduce energy consumption, thereby reducing lighting and ventilation costs.

On the same floor, there is also an infinity pool designed to immerse swimmers in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. On the lower level, accessed via a corner staircase, there is a second swimming pool next to the bedroom. Each of the four bedrooms has its own sea-view terrace and stairs from the upper level to the lower level. Its design intention was that when descending, a person would see the treetops swaying above the top of the head.
