K.house is a garden bungalow located in the center of Phan Thiet, Vietnam. It is a new house built entirely based on the memories, lifestyle and lifestyle of a family that has lived in an old house for over 30 years. In memory, there was a sandy road leading from the small door to the house, on either side of two long rows of sugar cane, then changed to two rows of lychee trees, and then a row of boarding houses.
Three years ago, when we conceived this house, we wanted to create a new space (tropical modernity), but had to ensure two main tasks. One is to optimize the two available garden areas, and the second is to preserve the old values, such as the path to the house, and the old space (altar room, mother's bedroom...) is still preserved to maintain a familiar feeling during family activities. We divide the house vertically to balance the two elements of family activities and accommodation services. The problem is that the house can be divided into two spaces for use by two families (several generations), fully functional kitchen, dining table, living room, bedroom, etc. It can be flexibly turned on and off when needed, guaranteeing functionality and privacy.
Two parallel corridors connecting the front and rear garden (courtyard) and the main transport axis are two parallel corridors. Whichever room you are in, you can fully feel the sound, the smell of greenery and the cool view. Although there is only a base, we use a large exposed iron truss system to increase height and ventilation, inspired by typical Mani resort buildings such as Sai Kung Mei Nai Resort (architect Nguyen Van Tat), Jibe Beach Club... and combine materials such as purified yellow and black tangled boulders with nature. Simple furniture combines wood, leather, and rattan lanterns to bring a tropical feel to the space.
