The client asked R21 Construction Company to create an intimate and solid family home in the Nordstrand area of Oslo, Norway. The large pine trees, the steep terrain on the west side, and the spectacular view from the canopy to the Oslo Fjord are the main prerequisites for the layout and direction of the project.
To maintain the quality of the complex layout of the terrain, the project finds its place in a somewhat unusual inherent challenge. The entrance to the villa from the street can be reached via a bridge to the top floor. From there, the spiral staircase leads to the main living area. The layout of the rooms is based on the traditional principle of gradual transition between public and private areas. Includes most of the public space on the top floor, the middle floor of the daily living area, and the ground floor containing the bedroom.
Structurally, the project consists of two main parts; a heavy concrete foundation and a lighter wooden structure. The ground serves as a solid foundation, providing a protected atmosphere of an enclosed private area. A striking contrast to the lightness and openness brought about by the wooden structure around the living area above. Function and purpose determine the material used. The concrete structure consists of two floors, a load-bearing floor, a one-story load-bearing wooden posts and a roof roof, making the quality of the material visible from the inside and outside. These durable materials are not afraid of the wear and tear of everyday life, while they also acquire beautiful rust over time.
