South Korea Gyeongju 45 ㎡ SawyerJeong Hanok House
Located in Huanggudong, Gyeong, Sawyer Jeong is located between Gyeongju's iconic historical sites and Huangli Tong Road, the most developed commercial district. Unlike traditional Koreas, the project will transform an old Korean house into a private residence as an ordinary public living environment, inspired by the quiet Wong Ko Cave. Sawyer Jeong is located near the main tourist attractions of Gyeongju, which is densely populated, but it is an ancient space that seems to be hidden. It is a place to experience a new type of hanok house, while retaining the typical improved hanok house atmosphere and retro appearance, it shows another form of traditional architecture, changing into various forms.
One is to replace proximal flexural structures to solve the problems of corrosion and component deflection at the base end of the wooden structure. ALL DEMOLISHED AND REBUILT OF BEAMS, PILLARS, COLUMNS, AND PARTS OF THE ROOF. The internal structure of the roof is finished with tarps and shutters to maintain the appearance of a rough roof, closer to a regular wooden structure than a hanok house.
As it is an improved Korean house adapted to the life of the times, it focuses on change rather than tradition. The decorative materials were replaced, while retaining the shape of the walls and doors revealing the era, and the exterior of the main building was boldly covered with structural materials, taking into account functionality and usability, and the interior was finished in a modern style. The interior space is planned to use a floor plan using the Hanok House concept. All non-bearing walls that separated the room were removed, making the entire space an open structure, side by side.
