Using a contrast approach, SemiBold combines a dark-colored external environment with a well-lit internal environment to maximize narrow pitches to focus the field of view outwards. Litera Trotta has converted existing single-storey dwellings into two-storey family homes covering its site area and designing a cozy shelter for young families.

In stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of family life, the goal is to create a home of lasting peace that is both a suitable place to play and a place to rest. Originally a three-bedroom residence on one floor, the overall volume was expanded to create more natural levels. Between passive and active spaces, the home is given a new form that connects with the original housing while also reflecting the current owners and their way of life. The space opens to the view in the back of the shared living, dining and kitchen area. Through the use of large operable doors, this outdoor space becomes an extension of the interior.

To continue the effect of the existing contrast, the darker matter still exists and is emphasized in some parts — mainly on the outside — and on the inside, the exact opposite is true. Softer tones are used as the main basis, the texture adds depth to the space. Darker tones are introduced in the kitchen to integrate the stability needed for family life, while also combining with the exterior expression of the home. On the upper level, the entire wall is used to extend the feeling of internal height, increasing the sense of proportion. The darker form, although added another level, is discreetly located in the right place as a secondary element in the cityscape.
