Melbourne-based architecture and interior design firm Carr design is no stranger to elevating people's lifestyles as they own carefully crafted luxury homes. Under the leadership of founder and lead author Sue Carr, they have achieved over 40 years of achievement.
Their newly designed six-suite apartments are all built of handmade bricks from Spain and are located on the same floor. With tactile materials, clean lines and a warm, minimalist aesthetic pervading every space, Carr design defines a new standard of apartment living. Carr Design shares a street with Melbourne's iconic medieval building “Moonbria”, a design that draws on the timeless design language of the area, as well as customer demands for conciseness. It embodies color tones, materials and forms, and innovative details from the inside out.
Although the color scheme and tone are soft, the material has a rich texture that enhances the touch through the combination of brushwork and natural finishes.
The apartment has no lack of natural light or cross-ventilation, facing the view. Carr's team makes sure to bring light indoors during cloudy winters, while reducing glare in the sunny months. Each of the six apartments is designed for habitability and indoor comfort, incorporating sustainability principles such as orientation and ventilation. From the outside, the hand-made linear bricks also reflect the medieval emblem. Each brick is handmade in Spain with incredible warmth and natural softness. Bricks are part of a broader, more defined material palette that emphasizes high quality, touch, and a minimalist aesthetic. Inside, a polished gray natural stone is used for kitchen and other fine carpentry details and then raised to the kitchen worktop via beveled details.
