Oxlade is built on the foundations of an existing house from the 1980s and has been transformed into a modern open-plan residence that adapts to the modern environment. Shaun Lockyer Architects focuses on a method of preserving most of the original brickwork structure while weaving complementary and contrasting materials as a fun point. In a new chapter of the residential narrative, Oxlade expands and remodels, creating an open and fluid interior space that connects with the surrounding landscape. Shaun Lockyer Architects used original materials as much as possible to renovate and lighten the renovation from the perspective of sustainability and respect. THE ELEVATION USES SOLID MATERIALS — ADDITIONAL BRICKWORK AND METAL GRILLES DEFINE THE EXTERIOR ELEVATION AND BOUNDARIES OF THE HOUSE.
As a means of expressing the exterior, a bronze anodized screen was added, emphasizing the level and privacy of the home. Internally, a more fun, purposeful approach is introduced to encourage the interaction of space and light and an overall expansion of perceptual scale. The palette of light finishes and materials enhances the interior volume and sets the ideal basis for displaying collectibles. As the previous structure was tiring, with some minor changes and overall softening, the house was given an eye-opening second experience.
