What is the ideal thinking environment?
For this project, there are two conditions for the answer—a physical and psychological space that is both clear and supernatural. Literally speaking, this rooftop home office is a place to look at the world but pull away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is a close-up space, a space away from the city and home. A space dedicated to work and study, this small additional space disk is empty in San Francisco. While balancing existing houses, lean toward the city and hover in the air four stories high.
Large built-in desks and cushioned loungers take the edge of the space with 180° panoramic views. Above the main work surface, the periphery is kept open to the ceiling plane of the full skylight. A continuous horizontal band of glass surrounds the four sides of the project with minimal interruptions. The direct visual link with the wide field of vision enhances the feeling of being immersed in half the air, hovering above the world below.
