Matopos makes efficient use of space and volume and ensures a sense of open connection throughout. The sandstone base is connected to the area's natural rock strata and streetscape history as the homes overlook the expansive surroundings. A tribute to the sculptures of local surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku, the upper level sees cast bronze elevations encircling the form, corresponding to the fluidity and shape of the waves. Atelier Andy Carson ensures that modern homes are respectful of the past.
