In modern home design, space is not just a physical presence, but an extension of a way of life. WDS's previous expertise in space design is to integrate the occupants' personalities, interests and preferences into the space through detailed design. Today, we will share a design case in Xinyang, Henan, a 71-square-meter house with a garden of 27 floors and a carefully selected selection of lines, colors and materials to create a functional and personalized living space.

Project Background

Located in Xinyang, Henan, this project has a total area of 71 sqm and includes 44 sqm of indoor space and 27 sqm of garden. The owners of the house are a young couple and their daughter, who work and study locally in the three houses. Homeowners' parents also occasionally come to stay, so the space needs not only to meet daily living needs, but also to accommodate the comfort and flexibility of family gatherings.

The WDS team conducted detailed needs communication at the beginning of the design, understanding homeowners' views on garden utilization, interior lighting improvements, space layout optimization, and making design adjustments to address the following challenges:

  1. Lighting problems: Since the house is located on the first floor, and the length of the north-south transmission line reaches 16 meters, which leads to insufficient lighting in the interior, it becomes the first problem to solve.
  2. Spatial Motion Optimization: Problems such as the unbalanced layout of the main and secondary bedrooms, the front door to the main bedroom, the narrow space between the main and the main bedroom, and the dark corridor, all need to be improved through the movement adjustment.
  3. Storage & Space Utilization: A large number of invisible storage requirements make it crucial to integrate the storage design into the overall space.

Spatial Layout Adjustment and Lighting Optimization

To improve lighting, we removed the partition wall of the restaurant and the air conditioning unit at the original living room location, and moved the outside of the air conditioner to the equipment bay on the north side, allowing more natural light to enter the room. The pediment and exterior walls of the kitchen were also removed and removed, expanding the area used in the interior space. While such a change increased living space, it also created the problem of unobscured access between the entrance gate and the south side garden. For this purpose, we have specially designed flat central windows to increase privacy and meet the needs of Feng Shui.

The space's south-north transparent design makes the overall visual effect more spacious and bright. With a redesigned section of the gables, not only functionality has been increased, but also provides more storage space for the home, suitable for storing large items.

Functional and aesthetic storage design

In this residence, the storage design becomes a highlight. Starting at the entrance gate, nearly 32 floors of hidden storage space is perfectly combined with hardware and home appliances. While meeting actual storage needs, we avoid the impact of storage space on overall beauty through ingenious design. For example, the dressing room adopts a three-link rainbow glass door design, which increases ventilation and lighting effects, and retains some privacy.

The partition between the master bedroom and the master bedroom has also been carefully designed, divided into two sections, separated by a glass brick waist line in the middle, which not only enhances the sense of space, but also enhances the lighting effect, making the room more warm and bright.

DETAILED TREATMENT OF PERSONALIZED NEEDS

In kitchen design, we have made functional partitions according to the owner's usage habits, and designed high and low countertops for the differences in height of kitchen staff, avoiding fatigue from prolonged bending operation. The design of the restaurant naturally blends the tea cabinet with the living room background wall by lengthening and cornering, making the dining area separate, creating a new space order.

The design of the master bedroom focuses not only on functionality, but also on beauty and comfort. In order to increase storage space, we have installed bookcases in the bed wall to meet the daily reading needs of homeowners. The large desk next to the window in the south house has the function of a dressing table and a temporary desk, providing a wide range of possibilities for use.

The fusion of garden design with outdoor space

The total area of the garden on both sides of the south and north reaches 27 meters, according to the needs and preferences of the family members, we set different landscape areas in the garden. The garden design takes into account not only the leisure needs of the residents, but also the appropriate plants are selected according to the different climatic conditions of the South North Yard, creating a comfortable outdoor space.

To solve the height difference between indoors and out, we have designed a spacious corridor passage that alleviates the drop differences caused by stairs. A canopy above the porch also adds security, avoiding the potential risk of high-altitude parasites.

WDS has always emphasized the concept that “space is an extension of people” in space design. In the design of this 71 floor residence, we have created a living space that is both comfortable and full of personal style for the owner through careful line adjustments, lighting optimization and functional storage design. Every design detail is designed to enhance the quality of life and perfectly combine living space with everyday needs.
