In a space of only 26 floors, how can 2 adults, 2 children, 6 cats, and a male and female owner simultaneously accommodate the needs of a culinary classroom and a music studio? With “Diversity of Living” as the focal point of the design, Elephant Space creates an ideal duplex that not only meets daily life, but also can easily switch between work and home functions. This space perfectly balances the needs of humans and cats to create a warm and productive example of living.
The needs of this family are varied and challenging — including a dedicated workspace needed by a musician husband and a cookery classroom that a baker's mistress dreams of. Designers address the following needs with detailed planning:
The kitchen is designed as a core space, with Nakajima and a long dining table, which not only meets the needs of the hostess for a baking course, but also becomes a place for the whole family to share food.
A dedicated music area is planned on the second floor to provide the man with office space for online conferences and instrument sales, which is both quiet and efficient.
For the active habits of 6 cats, the stairs were transformed into a glass cat house, connecting the upper and lower floors, allowing the cat to move freely and closely interact with the owner.
The original staircase has been transformed into a steel structure, coated with breathable mineral paint to help regulate indoor humidity and odour, especially suitable for cat activity spaces.
Laying a special anti-scratch and wear-resistant floor for cats not only increases the durability of the dwelling, but also increases the overall convenience.
Daily Life Scenes: The open living room and kitchen flow smoothly, allowing the whole family to interact without hindrance.
Work and Creativity: Male and female hosts have their own separate work areas, ensuring focus and uninterrupted.
Social & Leisure: The large terrace provides a place to relax and welcome friends, allowing small families to enjoy the outdoors.
The glass cat house in the stairwell is the highlight of this design, offering cats a “third space”:
Visual Interaction: Transparent material keeps the cat's activities at a glance, keeping the owner and pet in touch at all times.
Stereoscopic Motion Space: Combine cat scraping floors and stairs to provide the cat with plenty of exercise area.
With precise line planning and zoning, designers have made the most of limited space to meet living, work, and entertainment needs.
Mineral paint is highly breathable, effectively regulating humidity and odour, ensuring fresh air.
Nakajima and the long dining table are combined with baking instruction and family dinner functions, so that the hostess does not have to take turns between teaching and life.
The design of this 26-storey duplex apartment by Elephant Space fully demonstrates the possibilities of living diversity. It not only provides a warm environment for cats to live together, but also meets the work and leisure needs of family members. If you also want to inject more functionality and emotion into your small table space, this case is definitely worth a look!
