Located in Choulakia, Mykonos, Greece and overlooking Tylos and Rineia Island with a significant slope and south facing, A31 ARCHITECTURE designed this villa.

The ground part of the villa is 120 ㎡, while the ground part is about 130 ㎡. From the beginning, the building was considered as a component part of a larger project, which included all 4000 ㎡ of land. The aim is to integrate the hard landscape and soft landscape of the building into the natural Mykonian landscape.

Latypi's plan talks with typical architectural heritage as well as the terrain of Cyclades, positioning itself as a contemporary precursor in the landscape. The concept is inspired by the local sculptural tradition, which for centuries has created timeless works of art. The intention to make outdoor spaces the focus of the building cluster (an ancient Greek practice) is evident. On the +0.00 floor (64 meters above sea level), all spaces are surrounded by an atrium. In the center, an olive tree planted deep in the Mediterranean landscape plays the role of memory. This part of the building includes the main living areas: living room, kitchen and restaurant, as well as two sleeping areas, one with direct access to the courtyard and swimming pool, and the other allowing for natural light extraction through the light well. On the same floor, an outdoor circular theater with about 60 seats faces the sacred island of Tylos.

The second part of the villa is developed on +4.00 floor (68 meters above sea level), located almost completely underground, including two bedrooms and an en suite bathroom. This section is connected to the main building by a 2.00 m wide open corridor. It is covered by a cultivated roof and faces south, overlooking the Aegean Sea. The outdoor parking lot is also covered with a planted roof, so the presence of cars cannot be seen from above. Landscape design builds on existing natural terrain, drawing on its elements, reinterpreting the diversity, texture and color of native plants to create a new palette. The goal is to reduce changes to the natural landscape as much as possible, while reintegrating native vegetation in the intervening area. Recommended exotic plantings are resistant to similar soil and climatic conditions and have lower overall irrigation and maintenance requirements.
