Located in the heart of Guatemala City, Nea House villas are located in a gated community. Gated communities and homes enclosed by high walls are common in the city to provide the security needed. However, the high walls of these houses make it almost impossible to enjoy the beauty of diversity and interaction between adjacent houses. Although it is a narrow, hidden plot of land; the client wants to transform one single-family house into two independent houses (10 m wide and 35 m deep). While privacy and security are still the main project influencers, the overall intention is to design a safe, public, open space residence. Take advantage of abundant natural lighting, ventilation and greening.

The house is conceptualized around a series of 3 patios wrapped and intersected by different building projects. With these connected terraces, a public interior was born, providing a central hub for the family. Wood and white finishes are the two main aesthetic materials chosen to keep the space illuminated while maintaining a warm and comfortable environment. The consistent use of this material is uniformly applied throughout the house, providing a feeling of familiarity and calm. Surrounding the warm interior is an elegant white perforated facade. This stand attempts to redefine the concept of “high walls”. While providing privacy and security, it changes aesthetics and light effects at different times of the day, giving a contemporary style to the typical exterior wall nearby.

After the doors are closed, people are invited into the open living space on the first floor. This type of plan allows flexibility and integration. THIS OPENNESS CAN BE ACHIEVED BY COMBINING ALL “SERVICE” ITEMS (ENTRANCES, ELEVATOR PASSAGES, BATHROOMS, STORAGE, ETC.) INTO ONE UNIFORM BUT BEAUTIFUL CAMOUFLAGE UNIT. These spaces are defined by smooth boards, connected by the terrace and its greenery; blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior. On the second floor, the private room is surrounded by an open terrace, creating a fun, unique family cycle. Walking from one room to another, users will be satisfied with the unique view of the patio and the perforated appearance.
