Designing Fonte das Perdizes houses is a completely different challenge, as the project requires a house with a modern shape that blends perfectly into the rugged natural landscape of Alentejo. The correct location to build the house is a natural choice as it is the only place where the house takes a dominant position in the landscape, has the best contact with the natural environment and protects the existing sacred oaks. These preserved trees help shape the shape of the house and help to increase the value of the area of the house, making them more integrated into the land.
The use of natural colors is also crucial to the development of this project, and its color integration is a major factor in the natural integration of the house into the rural landscape, so we tend to use materials that blend with the native colors while providing the durability needed by the harsh climate of Alentejo. The presence of colored slate with gray and brown pigments is the key color that guides the choice of material. As one of the pre-selected materials, we just have to adjust its color to the desired shade, that is, dark gray. On the other hand, to match the brown, we need a warmer material, and we have opted for pine, which has undergone special treatment, can be used both inside and outside the house, thus forming the perfect combination of dark gray concrete and dark silkwood with the building.
The shape of the house consists of 3 45-degree blocks that follow a westward direction, completely separated from south to north, with concrete walls 47 meters long and 3.50 meters high. The main entrance to the house is set to pass through a small private courtyard, marked by an ancient sacred oak as a hinge and balancing point for the entire project. Once over the northern barrier, the house opens onto the Alentejo landscape, where its 170 square meters of social area shares a 35m-wide window, the windows are protected by a 5-meter cantilevered concrete suspension, protecting the interior of the house from the effects of the cool summer heat. The kitchen is located in the middle of the house, separating the dining area on the east side from the living area on the west side and leading to a spacious terrace. The private part of the house is located on the east and west sides, accessed through a long corridor, and the corridor is illuminated by two entrance doors to the bedroom.
The interior of the house uses the same materials as the exterior, minimizing the type of material and color scheme of the project. Therefore, the walls, ceilings and floors use the same exposed dark gray concrete on the outside, all wooden products are designed to maintain a uniform architectural language of the whole house features, in wall coverings, interior doors, 3 MICAO USES THE SAME BROWN PINE ON REVOLVING DOORS, WARDROBES, BATHROOM AND KITCHEN CABINETS, AND BEDROOM BLINDS.
