Many years ago, a friend from Barcelona had the idea of moving to the Apulia region. She showed me some houses online and saw what I thought of them. About a year later, we passed a house as we drove to Carovigno, and I realized it was one of the houses she had taken me to see. The house is beautiful, old, very characteristic, and not too big. In the countryside, you will often find Masseria, which is a stone shed where local owners store equipment; or very large Masseria, where wealthy landlords once lived.
It is unusual to encounter a building with a Masseria style, but the size of a small villa. We found that the building was originally a girls' school and had a strong connection to the locals. It was abandoned in the early 1960s and we will bring it back to life with love. It is a gem.
Regarding the renovation process, we do our best to preserve traces of the exterior as much as possible. The interior needs to be completely greased, so a craftsman came, who made lime plaster and lime paint on his own. All the old stones have been repositioned and a new material has also been added on the floor to match the old one perfectly.
The old garage has been turned into a kitchen with a patio in the back. The stone stove was repaired and the donkey house changed into a laundry room. Two new functional areas were also added to the rear of the house, which became two suites with two bedrooms downstairs, while the two upstairs rooms became master bedroom suites with their own bathrooms. The living room has beautiful star-shaped arched ceilings and a large fireplace. The restaurant is in the old stables and the kitchen is next door.
