Creating a Home for Unlimited Living in Limited Space: A Designer Dad's Parent-Child Home Practice

This is my first detached house in Taichung. The interior floor is only about 18 PingBut I wish it could have Flexible use of 2+1 rooms。 This is mainly for weekends, so I want to maximize the public space, and the bedroom is just good for sleeping and doesn't need to be too big.

Taking into account the safety of the child, I made a guide circle in almost all the corners that could collide, and even dug a hole in the wall of the room and installed a stowable slide. Hope this home is safe, fun, and imaginative.

Spatial Planning Highlights: Flexible Layout × Public Magnification × Safe Design

🛋️ Maximize the living room: give 18 floors extra space for activities

Although the original layout is three rooms, the space is not large. Because I'm positioning this as a vacation home, there are actually only two rooms and the third room is designed as a space with flexible switches. We recessed the walls of the third room and the guest bathroom, so that Living room depth up to 6mOpen the entrance door and you can see the greenery outside the window and make the natural landscape part of your home.

The original kitchen had a wall connected to the headboard. In order to open up the view, we removed the wall in half to allow the dining table to connect with the kitchen. THE GABLE FLOOR IS MADE OF A 1 CM HIGH AND LOW DUST AREA, A “SMALL HOUSE HOLE” IS DUG WHERE KEYS CAN BE PLACED. THE PLATFORM IS ALSO DESIGNED FOR CHANGING SHOES, AND THE FRONT EDGE IS ALL CIRCULAR, SO EVEN IF A CHILD HITS IT, IT WILL NOT HURT.

📺 TV wall combined storage and surface decoration

The TV wall is made in an arc that extends all the way to the ceiling. It is not only a visual extension, but also a modification of beams, pipes and columns. At the same time, the storage function is hidden inside the wall and extends to the edge, perfectly hidden with the electrical box and the large column, and there is a space in the middle for hanging jackets and changing shoes.

A hole is opened between the master bedroom and the child's room for a movable slide. We originally changed three rooms to two rooms, but with Slide rail plus folding door system, allowing the space to switch to three rooms at any time. The third room is usually folded into an extension of the living room, and open to a guest bedroom or storage room. Although it is currently a manual door, it is a bit heavy, and in the future it is planned to add an electric rail upgrade to a “one-click change room”.

Since the children are young, all corners have been made as circular as possible, including cabinet corners, platforms, wall corners, etc. Not only makes the space softer, but also avoids collisions.

Our home has a lot of storage, but because the cabinets blend in with the walls, coupled with the choice of a single material, the overall space looks clean and not cluttered. The principle of life is:”It's okay to hide things, and you can't see them.“。

✅ All-season green view window: light and nature are the best decoration

The living room sofa can be adjusted front and back, it can sit against the wall or on both sides, and even as a reading corner. Faced with large windows and greenery changes all season, where else do you need a mural or decoration?
